The City of Corona Utilities Department want to remind you not to flush unused medication down the drain!
By disposing of medications and medical supplies properly, you:
- Protect the environment and our water supplies
- Prevent overdoses and use of expired medication
- Help keep drugs away from children
ALWAYS take medication as directed by your doctor.
FINISH your entire prescription when your doctor directs you to.
REMOVE your personal identification from medication bottles and containers before you dispose of them.
DISPOSE OF UNUSED MEDICATION PROPERLY.

Liquids, Pills, Inhalers
Dispose of medications (liquids, pills, inhalers) in the trash.
Do not dispose of syringes, needles, or other medical waste in the trash.

Liquids
EMPTY liquid medication onto absorbent paper towels or rags.
REMOVE LABEL, scratch out, cover with tape, or use permanent marker to make personal information unreadable.
DISPOSE of with regular trash.

Pills
CRUSH pills.
REMOVE LABEL, scratch out, cover with tape, or use permanent marker to make personal information unreadable.
DISPOSE of powdered medication with regular trash.

Propellant Inhalers
EMPTY the container by expelling all propellant.
DISPOSE of small empty cylinder in the trash.
Syringes & Needles

DO NOT dispose of sharps, needles, lancets or syringes in the trash.
PLACE used needles, syringes, sharps and lancets in a hard sided plastic container, like a bleach or laundry detergent bottle, with a secure lid. Do not use food product containers.
PLACE A LABEL on both sides of the container that identifies "BIOHAZARD" or "SHARPS / NEEDLES." Or print biohazard labels online by clicking here or call your local Household Hazardous Waste Collection facility at 951) 486-3200.
SECURE the lid and tape the container closed.
TAKE CONTAINER to a HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE (HHW) facility or properly dispose of them at the Sharp Kiosks inside Corona City Hall and Corona Public Library during business hours.

For Commercial/Medical Facilities
For medical facilities and commercial medical waste generators:
- Only treated medical waste is accepted at Riverside County landfills.
- The Medical Waste Acceptance Profile Package is required to be completed by all large quantity medical waste generators wishing to gain or maintain landfill privileges in Riverside County.
- Obtain a copy of the Riverside County Waste Management Department's Medical Waste Acceptance Policy by calling (951) 486-3200.
- Disposal of treated medical waste is charged at the routine refuse rate. Contact Riverside County Waste Management for a current fee schedule.
