Potential Scam - Water Quality Alert
A group not affiliated with the City is providing a notice regarding the City’s water quality to residents in the City of Corona. The notice offers free water quality testing and has some misleading information regarding chemicals in tap water.
The City of Corona Department of Water and Power (DWP) wants to assure you that our water is safe to drink. If you’d like to learn more about the City’s water quality, we encourage you to review our online Consumer Confidence Report (CCR). Last year, as in years past, your tap water met all United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and State drinking water health standards. The City of Corona safeguards its water supplies and we are proud to report that our system has not violated any primary drinking water standard.

Food Service Establishments: Network Piping Monitoring Systems
Neighboring water districts have received phone calls from some of their customers regarding a potential scam. Food service establishments are being targeted by a company that claims there is a federal mandate to install and monitor grease/solvent waste management equipment in the sewer lines of their business. The company identified themselves as Network Piping Monitoring System (NPS). NPS has been sending out notices requiring the business to fill out an activation form for sewer lateral monitoring and leak detection.
Anyone who believes that they have been contacted by this or any other scam artist is encouraged to keep any billing or other paperwork they receive and contact their local law enforcement agency or the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
Residential Clients: Water Test
Corona DWP has received reports from customers, stating that someone in a small, unmarked white car was conducting a water test at their home. All employees of DWP will have a vehicle with a City logo on the door and a 5-digit vehicle number. All employees have a city issued badge as well, and should be able to identify themselves for you as an employee of the City.

Have you received a letter from either of these companies? Please know that they are not affiliated with the City of Corona DWP — and you probably don't need this type of insurance.

Residential Clients: Phone Request to Pay a Delinquent Bill With a Pre-Paid Debit Card
Some customers have reported receiving a phone call from a company, advising them that their electricity or water services will be disconnected for non-payment. The scammer then tells the customer to purchase a prepaid debit card to pay the bill. While the Department of Water and Power may make courtesy calls, we never require you to pay in this manner.
