Street Lighting
With nearly 11,500 street lights to maintain, the City works hard to ensure efficiency and safety for all vehicular, bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
The City of Corona manages three Lighting Maintenance Districts (LMD), LMD 84-1, LMD 2003-1, and CFD 2011-1. These LMDs pay for the costs of ongoing maintenance and improvement of public street lights and traffic signals, which provides special benefits to properties within the boundary of the District. Special benefits are defined as improvements that increase the desirability or value of property directly associated with the enhancements. Assessments are established on a "zone-by-zone" basis and are paid by the property owners annually for a portion of the maintenance costs in their zone.
To read more about the Lighting Maintenance Districts 84-1 and 2003-1, please visit the Landscape Management Districts page.

STREET SWEEPING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q. Why does the City perform Street Sweeping?
A. This service strives to ensure that all City-approved alleys, arterial, residential, industrial streets, and City facilities are kept clean. Street sweeping removes debris, trash, and pollutants, helping prevent stormwater contamination and improving neighborhood cleanliness, and also complies with the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements.
Q. Who performs Street Sweeping for the City?
A. The City of Corona currently contracts with Sweeping Corp. of America for street sweeping services.
Q. What is the frequency of sweeping for my street?
A. Commercial Corridors & Arterials: Swept weekly or more frequently due to higher traffic and debris accumulation.
Residential Areas: Swept twice per month (typically) in residential neighborhoods. Exact days vary by zone.
Alleys & City Facilities: Swept monthly.
Q. What if there is a 5th week in the month? Will street sweeping adjust to come during that week?
A. No. Street sweeping schedule will not adjust or make up days.
Q. What happens to the debris collected? A. Debris is typically taken to local landfills or recycling centers.
Q. Why do I need to move my car or other obstructions at the curb?
A. Moving vehicles or other items off a street scheduled for sweeping allows crews to thoroughly clean the street from curb-to-curb. Parked cars create an obstruction to where the street can’t be swept. This can result in debris building up on the roadway and entering the storm drain, which can cause flooding during heavy rain and contribute to water pollution.
Q. Will I get a ticket or citation if I don't move my car?
A. Yes, but only if your car is located on a street containing no parking signs for street sweeping. Parking citations may be issued if your vehicle is parked during restricted hours—even if the sweeper doesn’t pass that day.
Q. Can I request no parking signs for sweeping on my street? A. Yes, but the resident requesting the signage must complete a resident survey of the entire block and obtain 67% approval from the residents. Contact the Public Works counter at (951) 736-2266 or e-mail us at Traffic.Eng@CoronaCA.gov.
Q. Who do I contact with questions regarding my citation?
A. You can contest a citation through the city’s parking enforcement office. Be prepared to provide documentation or photos. 951-736-2330.
Q. If it’s raining, is there still street sweeping?
A. Sweeping may be canceled during heavy rain, but light rain often does not affect operations. Sweeping services affected by weather will be completed once weather conditions allow. Check the city’s website or social media for updates.
Q. Does the street sweeping take place on holidays?
A. Sweeping is not conducted on major holidays, and enforcement is usually suspended on those days.
Q. How can I submit a sweeping complaint, get more information, or report a problem?

Pothole Repair
Potholes are small bowl-shaped depressions in the pavement surface. They generally have sharp edges and vertical sides near the top of the hole.
Potholes are created in many ways. The most common way is when water seeps into cracks in the surface of the road. Then, combined with the vibration of the tires over the cracks, this can cause the asphalt to fail. That is why there can be more potholes after it rains.
Vehicular traffic can cause the subsurface materials to move, generating a weak spot under the street. And every time that a vehicle travels over it, the damage grows until the new pothole is formed.
