District-Based Elections
The City of Corona conducts district-based elections. Under this system, Council Members are elected by the voters residing within their respective districts, and only voters within a district vote for that district's Council seat when it is on the ballot. The City Treasurer is elected at large by all registered voters citywide.

Mayor and Vice Mayor Selection
Each December, the City Council selects one of its members to serve as Mayor and another to serve as Vice Mayor. The Mayor serves as the presiding officer of the City Council.
Upcoming Election
The City of Corona is a general law city governed by a five-member City Council. The next General Municipal Election will be held on November 3, 2026, for City Council Districts 1, 4, and 5.
Candidate Eligibility Requirements
To qualify as a candidate for the Corona City Council, an individual must meet all of the following requirements at the time nomination papers are issued:
- Citizen of the United States
- Registered voter and resident of the City of Corona
- 18 years of age or older
- Residing in the district in which they are running
Candidates should consult applicable provisions of the California Elections Code regarding additional eligibility requirements.
Getting Started
Declare Your Intent to Run
Prior to soliciting or receiving campaign contributions related to candidacy, prospective candidates must file a Statement of Intention (Form 501) with the Office of the City Clerk.
Nomination Period
The nomination period for the November 3, 2026 General Municipal Election will open on July 13, 2026, and close on August 7, 2026.
Pursuant to the California Elections Code, nomination papers may only be issued and filed during the nomination period, except in limited circumstances when the filing period is extended due to an incumbent's failure to file. Prospective candidates may schedule an appointment with the Office of the City Clerk to receive nomination papers. Nomination papers are not available online and must be issued in person by appointment only.
Candidate Filing Fee
The nomination paper filing fee is $25. Fees for optional candidate statements are established by the Riverside County Registrar of Voters and will be provided to candidates during the nomination process.
Campaign Committees and Campaign Finance
Additional filing requirements may apply depending on the amount of campaign contributions received or expenditures made. Candidates considering fundraising activities prior to the official nomination period should contact the Office of the City Clerk before soliciting contributions to ensure compliance with applicable campaign finance laws.
Campaign disclosure and conflict of interest statements required by the California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) are maintained by the Office of the City Clerk.

City Clerk's Role in Elections
The City Clerk serves as the City's Election Official and is responsible for:
- Issuing and accepting nomination papers
- Administering municipal election procedures
- Processing city ballot measures
- Publishing required legal notices
- Maintaining campaign disclosure and conflict of interest filings
