Who May Register
To be entitled to register to vote, a person must be:
- A U.S. Citizen
- A resident of California
- Not in prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony
- At least 18 years of age at the time of the election
When to Register
You can register any time. However, to vote in an election you must be registered at least 15 days before the election. You must re-register if any of the following is true
- You have changed your residence or mailing address
- You have changed your name
- You wish to change your political party affiliation.
Vote by Mail Ballots
Vote by mail ballots are available 29 days before Election Day. If you do not receive a ballot, please contact the Registrar of Voters at (951) 486-7200 or(800) 773-8683.
Sample Ballot
Before every election, a sample ballot and other election material will be mailed out to every registered voter. This information is not forwarded by the post office, so it is important that you be registered at your current address. The sample ballot will give information about the offices and measures on the ballot. Review it before Election Day and decide how you want to vote. You may want to mark your sample ballot and take it with you to the polls to assist you in marking your official ballot. Your polling place is listed on the back side of your sample ballot. Keep your sample ballot. Do not throw it away.
Citizen Participation
The Registrar of Voters needs public-spirited citizens to serve as Precinct Officers. Polling places are also needed, especially those accessible to the handicapped.
If you are interested in providing one or both of these important services, please call the Polls Section at (951) 275-8715 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, or call toll-free at (800) 773-8683.
