DOMESTIC VIOLENCE LEADS TO MURDER INVESTIGATION
Corona, CA– On August 1, 2025, Corona Police officers responded to a call of an unknown problem in the 1200 block of W. Eighth St., Corona, and located a male suffering from stab wounds.
Officers arrived on scene and located a male victim, Michael Hughes (42 years old of Corona), with significant abdominal injuries. Corona Fire Department personnel pronounced Mr. Hughes deceased at the scene.
Corona Police officers interviewed family members and determined that the male sustained his injuries during an argument with his wife, Malena Johnson (33 years of Corona). Malena remained at the location and officers detained her without incident. Detectives from our Investigative Services Division responded and assumed control of the investigation and arrested Malena for murder, and she was later transported to the Robert Presley Detention Center.
Based on the information gathered, this appears to be an isolated incident and there are no outstanding suspects or danger to the community.
