Karen Spiegel was elected to her first term on the Corona City Council in 2002 and reelected in 2006, 2010 and 2014. She served as Mayor in 2006, 2010, and 2014 was elected as Vice Mayor on December 7, 2016. Prior to her election to the City Council, she served as elected City Treasurer from 1996-2002. Mrs. Spiegel currently serves on the Public Services Committee. She is one to take the initiative on many things and has created new programs when she sees a need such as the Healthy Corona Initiative; the Corona LAFF (Life After Fifty Five) and partner with Riverside Meals on Wheels; Mayor’s Youth Council; City Council Study Sessions, the Women’s Leadership Program and Conference, a partnership with the City of Corona and the Corona Chamber of Commerce; and the Women’s Business Partnership with the City of Corona and Inland Empire Women’s Business Center; and the "Celebrating Neighbors" Awards Program. She has also been instrumental with the City of Corona mobile app, the InnerCircleCorona.com, the Veteran’s Memorial, the Corona Military Banner Program, in addition to introducing the Mayor’s Messages.
Mrs. Spiegel represents Corona on the Regional level in many organizations including: Past Chair and Commissioner of Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC); District 63 Regional Council Member of Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG); Vice Chair of Transportation Committee of SCAG; Past President of Riverside Division of the League of California Cities and the Administrative Committee Chair of the California League of Cities; Riverside County Commission for Women, District 2 Commissioner; Southern California Regional Rail Authority (Metrolink) Board Member; alternate to LOSSAN (Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo Rail Corridor); Past Chair and Member SR-91 Advisory Committee; State Route 15 Stakeholder Advisory Committee; WTS Advancing Women in Transportation; American Public Transportation Association; Past Chair Riverside-Orange County Authority (ROCA); Vice Chair of Four Corners Transportation Coalition. She also served ten years on the Riverside Transit Agency (RTA) including two years as Chair; Past Chair Transportation NOW Committee; and the Western Riverside County of Governments (WRCOG). She currently serves as Supervisor Tavaglione’s alternate to the Western Riverside County Regional Conservation Authority and Coachella Valley Conservation Commission.
A Corona resident for over thirty two years, Mrs. Spiegel is an active member of the community and the owner of a local e-commerce/publishing company. Her “roll-up your sleeves” attitude has led her to immerse herself in many civic, business and community activities, including the Corona Chamber of Commerce, the Community Services Network, RCCD (Riverside Community College District) Friends of Forensics Board Member, Past President Soroptimist International, Past Board Member Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Alternatives to Domestic Violence (ADV), Founding Member Corona-Norco Interfaith Association, Co-Founder Riverside-Corona 100 Women Who Care, Riverside County Health Coalition, Charter Volunteer Trauma Intervention Program (TIP), Board Member United Neighbors Involving Today’s Youth (UNITY), Board Member Corona Fire Safety Foundation, ACS Relay For Life (Sponsorship Chair), Board Member Simple Acts of Care and Kindness (SACK) Foundation, Past President Congregation Beth Shalom, Woman's Improvement Club, Life Member Corona Public Library, Charter Volunteer Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Life Member Corona Historic Preservation Society, Charter Member Corona History Association, Corona-Riverside Navy League, American Association of University Women (AAUW), and Corona Chamber Ambassador Emeritus.

Mrs. Spiegel, and her husband Bobby, have five children and one grandchild. She graduated from the California State University in Long Beach and did her graduate studies at Pepperdine University, receiving a master’s degree and was a Marriage Family Counselor (MFC) for over twenty-five years. Her career has taken many paths from counseling, to electrical contracting and accounting, to publishing and marketing. When she married Bobby in 1985, she came to Corona and worked in the family Electrical Contracting business, Corona Industrial Electric, Inc. until it closed in 1995. Bobby and Karen began Spiegel Enterprises & Publications in 1989 and remains active in the local e-commerce and marketing business.
