The Fun Starts Here: Library and Recreation Services Annual Report

Post Date:09/05/2019 2:48 PM

If you have ever attended the Annual Independence Day Celebration, stopped by a story time at the Corona Public Library, or danced the night away at Corona’s Summer Concerts, chances are you met or interacted with Corona’s Library and Recreation Services (LaRS) staff.

Several years ago, the Corona Public Library was merged with Recreation Services to form the Library and Recreation Services Department. The merger allowed the City to provide more services to a growing community despite shrinking resources. There are many similarities between the two—as if two chapters of the same book. The department focuses on enhancing quality of life by developing programs, services, and activities for the whole community!

For the fiscal year July 2018 through June 2019, LaRS issued more than 2,000 facility rental permits, served 5,000 recreation class participants, welcomed 17,000 kids club and adventure campers, and hosted over 340,000 library visits.

“When the day winds down for most city departments, LaRS is going into its next shift, and we don’t close for the weekend,” says David Montgomery-Scott, Library & Recreation Director. “The library accommodates working families through evening hours, the Circle City Center hosts late night and weekend gatherings, seniors dance until 7:30 p.m., passports services are available six days weekly, and LaRS staff travel all 40 square miles of Corona to introduce residents to the services we offer.”

Learn about the many services LaRS provides and the great partners that help make them possible such as donors, sponsors, and dedicated volunteers. LaRS helps keep Corona an engaged, healthy, and enriched community, but don’t take our word for it, click here to view the 2018-19 Annual Report!
