DUI CHECKPOINT NETS ONE ARREST AND 21 CITATIONS

Corona CA –The Corona Police Department arrested one motorist for driving under the influence during a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint last Friday night, March 15, 2019. The location of the checkpoint was 1200 West Ontario Avenue. The checkpoint operated between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m. During the operation, officers screened 1,164 vehicles with 63 of the drivers sent to secondary screening.

During this time, officers cited 21 drivers for operating a vehicle without a license or with a suspended/revoked license. Of these 21 drivers, 12 of their cars were released back to them once a licensed driver arrived. The other nine cars were towed at the end of the checkpoint.    Safely California

Collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests determined the location of DUI checkpoints. Last year the Corona Police Department investigated 72 DUI collisions. These collisions resulted in the death of two people and injured 51 others.  Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to be approximately $13,500. The price includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension, and other expenses – not to mention possible jail time.

DUI

As a reminder “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.” Prescription drugs, particularly those with driving or operating machinery warning on the label, can impair and result in a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
