California Avenue Sewer Pipeline Project Update – Temporary Road Closure Coming Soon
Nighttime construction along California Avenue south of Old Temescal Road to Ontario Avenue to install the new gravity sewer line will commence on March 11, 2019. The sewer construction work is being switched to nighttime hours to minimize impacts to businesses and to improve safety for the public and the construction workers where conflicts with existing utilities and deep trenches make construction challenging. At least one entrance to Sam's Club and Home Depot will be available for flagger- controlled traffic to access this shopping center from California Avenue.
Compton Avenue will not be impacted and offers direct access to this shopping center. Detours around the work area in California Avenue are shown below. The detours include Rimpau Avenue or Compton Avenue connecting to Old Temescal Road and California Avenue north of the work area. A short section of California Avenue south of Carbide Drive to the signal north of Ontario Avenue will be closed to through traffic during this time with a detour provided on Rimpau Avenue and Compton Avenue.
Alternate access to driveways and businesses including Sam's Club and Home Depot will remain open during construction. Delays may occur along California Avenue and nearby streets due to this construction.
All businesses will be accessible during construction.
About the California Avenue Sewer Pipeline Project
The California Avenue Sewer Pipeline Project will provide additional flow capacity to carry sewage from new development and the planned decommissioning of the City's Water Reclamation Facility #3 (WRF3).
The project will construct approximately 8,600 linear feet of new sewer pipeline and associated manholes along California Avenue. The majority of the sewer will be installed using traditional open cut methods. Sewer construction at major street crossings will be constructed using trenchless technology, such as bore and jack methods which installs the pipe between two installation pits. Trenchless construction will minimize traffic disruption at high volume intersections at Old Temescal Road, Ontario Avenue and Chase Drive.
Please be advised that traffic delays are to be expected. Plan accordingly by taking alternate routes and allowing more travel time for known traffic delays. The City of Corona appreciates your patience and support while we make these important infrastructure improvements. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience.
