STUDENT ARRESTED ON CAMPUS WITH HANDGUN
CORONA, CA– On December 14, 2018, about 12:10 p.m., a Corona Police School Resource Officer arrested a student with a loaded handgun on the campus of Corona High School.
A teacher’s aid received information that a male student was in possession of a handgun while on campus. This information was immediately relayed to the Corona Police Department School Resource Officer and school administration. The school resource officer and administrator were able to quickly locate and arrest the 16-year-old male student without incident. The student was in possession of a loaded handgun that was concealed in his waistband at the time of his arrest. Detectives are following up on how the student obtained the handgun.
Based on the investigation, there was no threat or plan to injure students at the campus. Investigators believe this was an isolated incident. No injuries were reported to students, staff, or our officers during the incident. This incident demonstrates the importance of the “See something, Say something” campaign. We want to thank the individuals who initially provided the information regarding the gun to the school officials.
The Corona Police Department will have an extra officer, in addition to the School Resource Officer, on campus at Corona High School through Tuesday. If you have further information about the incident, please call 951-817-5837.
