Corona Welcomes New Mayor and City Council Members

CORONA, CA– On Monday, December 10, 2018, the City of Corona certified the November 2018 General Municipal Election and chose a new Mayor and Vice Mayor to represent the City.  The total number of votes cast in the City of Corona was 31,068 which included polling location ballots and vote by mail ballots.

The November election was the first “by-district” election for the City of Corona. As provided for in Measure N and Corona Municipal Code Section 2.08.170, the voters in District 1, 4 and 5 elected new Council Members pursuant to the “by-district” system.  Based upon the election results, Corona resident, Jacque Casillas was elected as a Member of the City Council for District 1, Jim Steiner was elected as a Member of the City Council for District 4, and Wes Speake was elected as a Member of the City Council for District 5.  Each Council Member for Districts 1, 4 and 5 will serve a four (4) year term.

Jacque Casillas

Councilwoman Jacque Casillas is excited for the year ahead and had this to say, "Over the last fourteen months I have been able to get to know my community and hometown in a much deeper way. I know we have a lot of work to do but I am certain we are up for the task. I am honored to represent my neighbors on the city council and proud to call Corona home."

Wes SpeakeCouncilman Wes Speake will be serving Corona residents in a new capacity and shared his enthusiasm, “I’m proud to be the first councilperson elected from Corona’s 5th District. I promised the citizens of Corona Leadership, Integrity, and Transparency. I will continue to fight for traffic mitigation, sane/sustainable development that focuses on jobs and sales tax generation and fiscal health, so our public safety professionals have the tools and training they need to keep us safe all while emulating our city's motto "To Cherish Our Past, To Plan Our Future." 

Jim SteinerRetired Corona Fire Captain, Jim Steiner proudly returns to public service, “We're all on the same team and together we can make our city better. I'm honored to serve the citizens of Corona and I’m ready to meet new challenges with strength, commitment and a focus on leadership.”

The remaining Council Members currently in office will continue until the expiration of their terms in November 2020 at which time the voters in District 2 and 3 will elect their City Council Members by-district.
