Economic Development Press ReleaseFor Immediate Release
September 28, 2017

CORONA, CA – The City of Corona has long been a leader in commerce and industry with big names like Monster Energy, LuLaRoe, Lucas Oil, Robertson’s Ready Mix, and Saleen Automotive – just to name a few.

To help raise awareness of the importance of industry and to encourage the growth of Corona’s 400 manufacturing businesses, Mayor Dick Haley issued a Proclamation making October “Manufacturing Month” in Corona at its Sept. 19, 2017 City Council meeting. “Manufacturing is the backbone of our nation’s economy,” the citation states.

During the month of October, the City of Corona’s Economic Development Team will conduct a workforce development panel with education partners including University of California Riverside, Norco College, Corona-Norco Unified School District and Alvord Unified School District. Each panelist will share about their Career Technical Education (CTE) curriculum and how important it is to bring education and industry partners together to ensure a skilled workforce for the future.

Also during Manufacturing Month, the City of Corona will host a field trip for manufacturers to visit the Port of Los Angeles and see commerce in action.

“Most people don’t realize the Port of Los Angeles is the busiest port in the nation,” said Kimberly Davidson, Economic Development Manager for the City of Corona. “In taking our manufacturers there, they gain an understanding and respect of imports and exports and we connect them to necessary resources that can help them grow their manufacturing businesses in Corona.”

It is also imperative that industry understand the benefits to being part of a Foreign Trade Zone, of which there are two overlapping Foreign Trade Zones in Corona. To help educate businesses on these benefits, the City and the Corona Chamber of Commerce will hold a workshop on Foreign Trade Zones on Oct. 26, 2017 at the Chamber’s offices.
