CORONA, CA–The City of Corona is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Young as the City’s new Fire Chief, effective August 10, 2018. Chief Young joins Corona with twenty-eight (28) years of fire service with the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA).

“We are honored and proud to have Chief Brian Young join the Corona Fire Department team,” said City Manager Darrell Talbert. “Chief Young’s extensive years of experience and expertise with the OCFA will be a great compliment to our outstanding Fire Department. He is a very talented leader with broad expertise in Organizational Planning, Human Resources and Fire Operations. I’m confident that his team-building and people skills will help Corona Fire Department maintain and grow its great reputation and service to the citizens of Corona.”

Chief Young recently served as the Assistant Chief of Operations at OCFA with oversight of 72 fire stations servicing 23 cities and the Orange County unincorporated areas. His fire service background includes extensive knowledge and expertise in Fire Suppression, Urban Search and Rescue, Hazardous Material Response, Fire Investigation and Paramedic. Chief Young holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Administration from Cal State University Los Angeles and a Master’s Degree in Security Studies from the Naval Post Graduate School.

“To say it is an honor to be selected as the City of Corona’s next Fire Chief is an understatement. The Corona Fire Department has a long history of professionalism, excellence and community involvement, I love these qualities. I am excited for the opportunity to be a part of the fire department and city’s leadership team,” said Brian Young.

The City of Corona has been without a permanent Fire Chief since April 2018. Recruitment for the Fire Chief position was conducted by an outside firm, Ralph Anderson & Associates, who specializes in executive recruitment. The recruitment process was a highly competitive, nation-wide search which resulted in 28 highly qualified applicants. The leading candidates went through an extensive interview process involving panel interviews and background investigations resulting in Brian Young being the top choice for Corona.

Although Chief Young was originally scheduled to commence employment on Monday, August 13, 2018, the expansion and urgency of the Holy Fire has necessitated an immediate start date. Please join us in welcoming Chief Brian Young to the City of Corona!
