DOMESTIC VIOLENCE & HIGH-SPEED PURSUIT SUSPECT APPREHENDED

CORONA, CA– On May 1, 2018 at approximately 8:43 p.m., the Corona Police Department received a call to the 800 block of West Olive Street for a domestic violence incident in progress. The caller advised that the suspect, 35-year-old Miguel Angel Romero, dragged his girlfriend by her hair into the car during an argument and was now driving down the street dragging the victim. The reporting party also advised the Corona Police that Romero threatened to use a gun if they called the police.

Corona Police officers were able to locate the vehicle with Romero and his girlfriend both inside. A traffic stop was initiated, but Romero refused to stop as directed and led officers in a pursuit. The pursuit reached speeds of up to 120 mph and went from Corona to Lake Elsinore, back to Norco, and ultimately ended in the City of Corona at the 800 block of La Cadena where the suspect attempted to flee. Romero initially attempted to go into the backyard of a residence, however, he came back to the front door of the home and attempted to enter the residence. Officers were able to confront Romero, but he failed to follow orders and could be seen reaching his right hand deep into his waistband. Due to his continued defiance of commands given by the officers, a Corona Police Department canine was used to apprehend Romero, and he was arrested.

Officers transported Romero to Corona Regional Hospital for treatment before booking.  Corona Police booked Romero for Kidnapping, Domestic battery, and Felony Evading.

Officers located the girlfriend inside the vehicle unharmed.  Officers did not locate a gun after the incident.
