Library Press Release

For Immediate Release

May 1, 2018

CORONA, CA–The Corona Public Library Gallery will be featuring Jeffrey Alan Nelson’s folk art May 5 through June 16, 2018. His big bugs, little bugs, ceremonial masks, sea creatures, and chess pieces are all created from recycled papers, plastics, and everyday materials. The community is also invited to an artist reception on Tuesday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the library.

From an early age, Jeffrey has been drawing, painting and generally creating with anything he could get his hands on. For the past 10 years, he has focused his attention on creating art pieces made from recycled household items. He has worked with salsa bottles, an old baseball cup, as well as forks, chopsticks, toothpicks and a variety of other items. Art

Jeffrey has Iberian, Native American, Irish and Nordic blood flowing through his veins.  Those cultures have shaped his outlook on his art. He’s intrigued by the primitive mysticism of ceremonial masks. He also has a love of all things insect. His influences include the Native American cultures of the American Southwest, Oaxaca-Mexican folk art, Inuit art of the Pacific Northwest, as well as contemporary artists Keith Haring and the author/artist Dr. Seuss.

Jeffrey’s recycled pieces have won awards at the Orange County Fair Art Competition, including a division winner for Tiger Lily in 2014 and a First-Place ribbon for Snap Dragon in 2017.

Jeffrey graduated from Norco High in 1980, attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, and worked in the advertising industry in New York City, Los Angeles, and Detroit. Today, he lives and works in Corona.
