CORONA POLICE EXPLORER'S SEVENTH ACADEMY CLASS
CORONA, CA–On July 30, 2017, the Corona Police Department began hosting its seventh week-long Police Explorer Academy. The academy culminates with a graduation ceremony on Saturday, August 5, 2017. Twenty- six high school age participants are enrolled in this year’s explorer academy, including six explorers from the Hemet Police Department Explorer Post #910.
Each day the explorers receive classroom instruction on topics relating to career choices, leadership, lifetime fitness, handcuffing, police K-9 tactics, use of force, investigations, and communications. The Corona Police Department’s mission, vision, values and pillars of success found in our Strategic Plan are important components of the instruction throughout the week. The goal of the academy is to provide these young men and women with life skills, leadership, and character development in the framework of working in law enforcement. The academy will also introduce the explorers to what it means to be a public servant.
The Corona Police Explorer Post #404 is the second oldest continuously operating law enforcement Explorer Post in the United States, established in 1966. Many of the current Corona Police employees working as the academy staff are former explorers and graduates of previous Corona Police Explorer Academies. The academy staff members are giving back to the very program that helped to shape their careers.
While an amazing experience, the Corona Police Explorer Academy is only one aspect of the Corona Police Department Explorer Program – a program that takes great pride in developing young men and women who are interested in a law enforcement career.
