CORONA, CA– On February 4, 2018, at about 4:25 p.m., Corona Police Department officers along with the Corona Fire Department personnel responded to the 1800 block of Champlain Drive in the City of Corona regarding a drowning.

Responding officers arrived and found family members performing CPR on a 2-year-old child who was found unresponsive in the pool.  Officers immediately took over performing CPR until relieved by Corona Fire Department paramedics.

Paramedics transported the child to the Corona Regional Hospital as they continued treatment.  After two hours of CPR by medical staff, they were able to regain a pulse. Children's Hospital of Orange County (C.H.O.C.) staff responded to Corona Regional Hospital and assumed care of the child while being transported to their facility.

At 11 p.m. medical staff from Children’s Hospital of Orange County informed the Corona Police Department the child had passed away.

The Corona Police Department and Corona Fire Department would like to remind everyone how quickly drownings can occur, often without a sound.   According to the Riverside County Injury Prevention Service, 86 percent of all drownings occur in backyard pools or spas/jacuzzi’s.  For further pool safety information, please visit
